This week on the Magnet Minute, Amy asks the question: should startups, with their limited budgets, consider video content marketing? Are the dollars applied to video truly worth the return?

The conversation around video content marketing has to go further than the hoped-for viral video, especially for companies that have very restricted budget with marketing only getting a small piece of the pie. So, how do you justify dollars for online video?

The Magnet Media blog recently shared an article from Video Brewery, which had some really great information about the benefits of online video marketing. Within the article, it mentions a Forrester Research study that claims 1.8 million words have the same value as just one minute of video. What a tremendous statement! So many businesses have jumped on the blog bandwagon over the years, and according to this, you’d need 3,600 blog posts, each containing 500 words, to equal the same value as a short multimedia segment.

Additionally, there are 100 million people watching videos every day, and many who are getting exposed to 32 videos per month. That’s certainly a fair share of content, that any business would want to be involved in. But, on the other hand, it’s also such an over-saturated market that its altogether too noisy for you to be remembered. For perspective, compare those facts to the volume of content being shared via Twitter every day — clearly a place on which it’s harder to stand out.

By the way, many executives are getting business-related information from online video, as it takes less time from their busy schedules and is more effective for building relationships with the source. Many of those same executives are going back to the websites of these content creators, to learn more about them.

But always have a plan when you’re creating video. Many viewers get lost within the first 10 seconds of a video, so if you’re not getting to your point and proving the video’s value, the viewer won’t stick around, and then it hasn’t been an effective use of your marketing dollars.
